Touchwood Blackwood Veneer VJ Panelling on MDF
Description
Description
Blackwood is one of Australia's most prized cabinet timbers – rich in colour, distinctive in grain, and unmistakably natural. Touchwood Veneer Panelling brings this beautiful Tasmanian hardwood to your walls and ceilings at a fraction of the cost of solid timber.
Each panel features genuine 0.55mm crown cut Blackwood veneer pressed onto a 9mm moisture-resistant natural MDF core. With 100mm VJ grooves machined into the face, the panels replicate traditional solid timber VJ panelling – but install faster and cost less.
The tongue and groove system makes installation straightforward. Fix directly to plasterboard, or batten out walls at 450–600mm centres. Use on walls, ceilings, bedheads, bulkheads, cupboard fronts, or kitchen islands – vertically or horizontally.
A protective coating is essential to protect against moisture, fading, and wear.

- Natural veneer from the same timber species can vary in colour and pattern between sheets, including natural characteristics such as gum vein, figure, sapwood, and a range of colour tones. Images and samples should be used as a general reference only. For specific matching requirements or to request a batch control sample, contact us before placing your order.
- Storage: Store flat in a dry area away from moisture and direct sunlight. Do not stand panels on long edges. Keep panels in original packaging until ready to install.

Touchwood is a tongue and groove panel made from real timber veneer pressed onto a 9mm moisture resistant MDF board. It gives the look of solid VJ timber panelling at a fraction of the cost and installation time. Available in Tasmanian Oak or Blackwood veneer on either a natural or black MDF backing.
Where can I use Touchwood?

Touchwood is incredibly versatile. It can be installed on walls, ceilings, bedheads, cupboard fronts, kitchen islands and joinery doors. It works equally well fixed vertically or horizontally and suits both modern and traditional interiors.
How easy is it to install?
How easy is it to install?
Very. Touchwood panels use a simple tongue and groove joining system and can be fixed directly onto plasterboard using construction adhesive and brad nails. Each panel is 1200mm wide and available in lengths up to 3600mm, so you can cover large areas quickly.
How do I finish corners and transitions?
How do I finish corners and transitions?
You can use clean straight cuts or finish with Touchwood's solid timber moulding profiles, available in Tasmanian Oak and Blackwood (20mm x 10mm x 3600mm) for neat wall-to-wall, wall-to-ceiling and wall-to-floor transitions. Simply nail the profiles into place with brad nails, fill any small gaps with timber putty and seal to match your panels. For full details, download the Touchwood Installation Guide.
Can Touchwood be used in bathrooms and wet areas?
Can Touchwood be used in bathrooms and wet areas?
Yes, Touchwood can be used in bathrooms and wet areas provided the space is well ventilated. The panels are made on a moisture resistant MDF substrate and when properly sealed with a wax, oil or polyurethane finish, they perform well in rooms with occasional humidity. Touchwood is not suitable for saunas, steam rooms or any enclosed space with prolonged high heat and moisture.
Can I install Touchwood on brick or masonry walls?
Can I install Touchwood on brick or masonry walls?
Touchwood cannot be fixed directly to brick, blockwork or masonry. For these surfaces, you will need to attach timber battens to the wall at approximately 450mm spacings first, then fix the panels to the battens.
Does Touchwood need to be sealed or finished?
Does Touchwood need to be sealed or finished?
Yes. Touchwood panels cannot be left raw and must be finished with a wax, oil or polyurethane in a finish of your choice. You can apply your chosen finish before or after installation.
Is Touchwood sustainable?
Is Touchwood sustainable?
Touchwood is made from PEFC certified timber veneer on PEFC certified moisture resistant MDF. The timber is sustainably grown, harvested and processed to meet the highest standards in quality and environmental practice. Because veneer panels use less solid timber than traditional lining boards, it is also a more resource efficient way to achieve the same look.
