Bending MDF MR is a factory-kerfed medium density fibreboard that allows you to create smooth, professional curves without steam bending equipment or specialist skills.
Also known as bendy MDF, flexible MDF, curved MDF, or flexi MDF, this versatile panel features precision-machined grooves on one face that let it flex around curved formers, while the opposite face remains smooth and ready for painting, laminating, or veneering.
Available in long band and short band configurations to suit vertical or horizontal curves, this moisture-resistant panel is ideal for curved cabinetry, column wraps, shopfitting, reception desks, and architectural features in kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial fit outs.

Minimum bending radius: Approximately 200mm
Groove specification: Precision V-grooves on one face, penetrating approximately 75% of panel thickness
Faces: One smooth face (visible side), one grooved face (fixes against framework)
Finish: Smooth face is factory-sanded and ready for priming. The grooved face always faces inward against the supporting framework.
Finishing recommendations: Seal edges with diluted PVA or MDF edge sealer. Prime with oil-based or shellac-based primer (avoid water-based primers on raw MDF). Apply 2-3 primer coats, sanding lightly with 220-grit between coats. Finish with enamel paint, laminate, or veneer as required.
Recommended applications: Curved cabinetry, column wraps, shopfitting, reception desks, bar fronts, kitchen islands, bathroom vanities, feature walls, bulkheads, display units, exhibition stands.
Workability: Cuts, routes, and shapes with standard woodworking tools. Fix with brad nails, screws (pre-drill and countersink), or adhesive. Panel must be fixed to a supporting framework or former to hold its curve.
Framework requirements: Install curved ribs or formers at 200-400mm centres depending on radius. Tighter curves require closer rib spacing to prevent flat spots telegraphing through the surface.
Storage: Store flat on level, dry bearers at maximum 800mm centres. Keep elevated off concrete floors. Store indoors in dry conditions and allow panels to acclimatise for 48 hours before installation.

Important information:
- Bending MDF is decorative cladding only. It is non-structural and must be fixed to a supporting framework or former to hold its shape. It cannot support loads independently.
- MR grade is moisture resistant, not waterproof. Suitable for humid interior environments like kitchens and bathrooms, but not for exterior use, weather exposure, or areas with standing water.
- Panel bends one direction only. Long band bends along the 2400mm length; short band bends across the 1200mm width. Ensure you select the correct configuration for your application.
