Edge Banding Explained: Matching Edges to Your Panel and Finish

Edge banding is one of the most overlooked details in panel selection, yet it has a direct impact on both durability and finish quality. On MDF, plywood, particleboard and veneered panels, the exposed edge is often the first point of failure if it is not properly protected.

Common Types of Edge Banding

  • Pre-glued iron-on tapes for smaller or manual applications

Matching Edge Banding to the Panel

The best results come from treating the edge and the face as a single decision. A laminate panel usually pairs with a matching melamine or PVC edge, while a veneered panel is best finished with a matching timber veneer tape.
