Strand Woven Carbonised Bamboo Plywood is a premium quality, sustainable building material that offers a unique and stylish alternative to traditional hardwoods. Made from compressed bamboo fibres, this plywood is both strong and durable, with a distinctive striped pattern that adds visual interest to any project.

The carbonisation process gives the bamboo a rich, warm tone, making it perfect for adding warmth and depth to any interior design scheme. The strand woven construction also gives this plywood superior hardness and durability, making it ideal for high-traffic areas such as walls, furniture and countertops.

This bamboo plywood is available in a range of sizes and thicknesses to suit any project, and its easy-to-work-with nature means it can be cut, drilled, and shaped to fit any design requirement. It is also an eco-friendly option, as bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource that is harvested sustainably.

Important notice: All wood-based panels are by nature potentially subject to bowing, cupping or warping following application of veneer. Read our panel manufacturing guidelines to learn more.

Material: 100% bamboo

Grain style: Strand Woven - Carbonised

Characteristics: Created by compressing bamboo fibers under high pressure in a rich walnut-like tone. This is the most durable bamboo option available, with a textured appearance resembling traditional hardwood. The best choice for high-traffic commercial applications or anywhere maximum durability is essential.

Finish & sealing: Panels are shipped with an unsanded factory finish at 8-15% moisture content and flat. While suitable for immediate use, a light sand with 180-220 grit will create a silky surface ready for finishing. As a natural material, bamboo is prone to movement and fungal attack when exposed to moisture or dry conditions, so sealing all faces promptly after cutting and assembly is essential to maintain stability. Water-borne finishes are recommended as they penetrate into the bamboo rather than sitting as a surface film, and won't yellow the natural colour. Note that the first coat will raise the grain and requires light sanding before applying subsequent coats.

Tolerance: ±3-5mm on dimensions; 1mm/m on flatness and edge straightness

Recommended applications: Joinery, cabinets, benchtops, tables, doors, wall and ceiling cladding, partitions, stair treads, shopfitting, signage, furniture, and laser etching projects. With exceptional hardness (Janka rating 3,800-5,000 vs oak at 1,360), bamboo panels are exceptionally resistant to denting and wear, making them particularly suited to high-traffic commercial applications.

Cutting & machining: Bamboo's density requires sharp tools for clean results. Use diamond-tipped saw blades when cutting. For CNC routing or detailed work, reduce feed rate by 50% and use sharp compression bits to prevent chipping.

Laminating to substrate: When laminating bamboo panels onto another substrate (such as MDF or plywood), use water-based non-toxic adhesives. For large panels or table tops, apply bamboo to both sides of the substrate to create a balanced construction that prevents warping or twisting.

Edging: Bamboo panels have an attractive edge that can be left exposed as a design feature - simply sand and seal along with all other faces. No edge banding required unless desired for aesthetic reasons.

Important information:

  • Bamboo panels vary in colour and grain pattern between batches, and the factory occasionally makes changes to face styles, core construction and colours between production runs. Product images should be used as a general reference only. If matching is important for your project, let us know before ordering - we can supply from the same batch and arrange a sample for approval.
  • As a natural wood product plywood can be affected by ambient conditions and may bow. Sheets are flat at dispatch but must be fastened promptly to maintain flatness. This is particularly important for non-fastened cabinet doors.
